The Extreme Tech Challenge is the world’s largest startup competition with Sir Richard Branson as our anchor judge and the world’s largest consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, CES, as a strategic partner for the semi-finals. The mission of the Extreme Tech Challenge
The mission of the Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) is to empower entrepreneurs and their companies with visibility, resources and a rolodex that together, bring a company more visibility, the ability to scale at low to no incremental cost, and to surround entrepreneurs with mentors that can help them build on product success with business success. The XTC pulls it all together into an experience that money cannot buy with showcase events at the world’s largest technology trade show, CES, and also at Sir Richard Branson’s own Necker Island. The Top 10 are also integrated into a community or super high achievers in business and sports known as MaiTai Global.
The contest was designed to allow entrepreneurs that are ‘natural winners’ to break out of the pack, in a world crowded with interesting companies and to give a solid group of the Top 25, Top 10, Top 3 companies access to valuable, premium prize packages at each level. For the thousands of other entrepreneurs in and around the contest,f the process and activities are designed to provide an inspirational experience, and a community of interest to bond with and learn from.
The community of people around the creation of the XTC has unprecedented access to key investors, high profile serial entrepreneurs, and innovators who are ready to serve as investors and mentors to help our applicants scale.
Because the XTC contest is so high profile, it sits in the virtuous vortex of great applicants that attract great investors and advisors and vice versa. Each stage of the contest has unique value to applicants that make it through to each successive stage.

Susi is a kite-boarding legend. She is one of the premier Red Bull athletes and during the 2003 Red Bull King of the Air competiton was given the sports highest female honor: Red Bull Queen of the Air. Susi is also the star of the popular German documentary series Wild Ones Junge Helden, which follows Red Bull athletes through their various adventures. In April 2012 she became a Patron of the KiteRight Charity, which uses kite-sports to help change the lives of individuals with physical, mental, or learning challenges.
VC, Angel, & Co-Founder MaiTai Global
Bill Tai established the Silicon Valley office for Charles River Ventures and is a Partner Emeritus backing Ark, Maxthon, Scribd, and Wish.com on CRV’s behalf. He is a prolific individual investor and entrepreneur, serving as the Founding Chairman of Treasure Data; a Board Director of BitFury, and a Board Director of Voxer. He is also a lead investor as an individual in Canva, Shoes of Prey, Tango.me, Tweetdeck/Twitter, and Zoom.us. He started his career as a computer chip designer and was issued badge #A001 at what has become the semiconductor giant TSMC. He holds a BSEE with Honors from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Harvard.
COO, MaiTai Global
Sabine has been working in the International Sports Marketing Department of Red Bull GmbH for 10 years; she was responsible for the company’s global Athlete and Event Management program as well as the strategic direction of Red Bull’s world wide sport marketing approach. She relocated from Austria to Maui in 2012 and is the personal assistant of the renown waterman Robby Naish.
As part of the MaiTai Global team, she supports Susi and Bill with event coordination & execution, strategic direction and other projects.
Content & Community Director
Actively involved in the startup community as a pitch coach, a presentation designer and an angel investor working closely with founders, investors and industry experts. Founder of Onkaro, providing workshops & design services for accelerators, incubators, non-profit organizations and universities to help entrepreneurs with their design & business needs. Faculty in the Masters program at Parsons at The New School in New York. Content manager of Extreme Tech Challenge, Ocean Gala and various MaiTai events.
Early Stage Venture Investor
Patrick is a venture investor at Samsung’s early stage fund, Samsung Next Ventures, focused on enterprise investing. He is leading the pipeline, screening, and judging process for the Extreme Tech Challenge.
A serial entrepreneur, Russell started THE CONFLUENCE years ago before “digital” and “publicity” were a unified concept. Bringing the two together, Russell has led countless successful campaigns across a wide spectrum of industries and mediums. Russell builds valuable relationships with press, artists, brands, and tastemakers.

Paul is an avid entrepreneur, adventurer and MaiTai member. He has been an industry leader in digital marketing for years from the early days at Dell Computer to building and selling marketing software and agency companies alike.
